How Long Does It Take to Build a Website?

Most custom small business websites take a few weeks to build, but how long yours takes depends as much on how quickly content and feedback arrive as on the build itself. With us, a Foundation website typically launches in 2 to 3 weeks, and larger Elevate and Scale projects usually take 4 to 6.

How long does a website take to build?

For a custom-designed website, 2 to 6 weeks is a realistic range when a project runs smoothly. The exact time depends on the package, the size of the site and our current workload.

  • Foundation Package: typically 2 to 3 weeks from start to launch
  • Elevate and Scale Packages: usually 4 to 6 weeks, depending on complexity
  • Momentum Package: scoped individually, with a timeline confirmed on your discovery call
  • Express option: available if you need to launch sooner, around our existing projects

What affects how long it takes?

Your content

Copy, images and logos are the most common cause of delays. A project can only move as fast as the material arrives.

Feedback

Quick, consolidated feedback from one person keeps each round short. Several people giving separate opinions slows everything down.

Size and features

More pages, an online shop or custom functionality all add time, which is why larger projects sit in the 4 to 6 week range.

Where you are starting from

A brand-new build is different from revamping an existing website. If you are carrying content over, we also review your current site and SEO before anything launches.

What happens during the build?

  • We design and build your website, with reviews along the way.
  • We transfer any existing copy, images and links to the new website.
  • We set up a dedicated Google Drive folder for your content and assets.
  • We launch, then support you for two weeks with free tech support.

How to keep your project on schedule

  • Decide the main goal of the website before the project starts
  • Gather your logo, brand colours and photos, or decide to use stock imagery
  • Write your core page copy, or plan who will
  • Check you can log in to your domain
  • Choose one person to give feedback and approve work

A rough draft you can send on day one is worth more than a polished version that arrives in week three.

You can see what is included in each of our website packages, or read the questions people ask most in our website design FAQs.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a website in a week?

It depends on the size and complexity of the site. Our standard Foundation Package typically takes 2 to 3 weeks. If you need your website sooner we offer an express option, and we will do our best to accommodate you around our existing projects.

Why do website projects run late?

Most delays come from content and feedback. When copy, images or approvals arrive late, the project waits, because pages cannot be finished without them.

How long does a website redesign take?

Our Elevate Package, which covers a complete redesign, usually takes 4 to 6 weeks depending on complexity.

What happens after my website goes live?

You have two weeks of free tech support after launch, and ongoing support is available on request.
